How to create a digital dvd collection:
Its a good idea to have all of your dvd's backed up digitally. On an external hard drive they can't be scratched and are very easy to navigate through.
How to build your digital dvd library All you need to do this is a computer with a dvd drive and windows media center. You should also get an external hard drive if you're looking to have a large library. External hard drives continue to increase in capacity and decrease in size so it's not a bad of a buy. They are a great thing to have to back-up all of your documents and pictures too.
You'll need to download two programs for this: The first is called DVD Fab. That is the program you will run to rip the dvd's to your hard drive. It can be found at www.dvdfab.com/. When ripping a DVD you can either keep it at 100% quality or choose to compress it. Depending on your storage options you'll have to make that decision for yourself. I got a 1TB hard drive for about 100 dollars so that gives me alot of storage to keep about 200 DVDs at natural quality. The second program is called My Movies. It can be found at www.mymovies.dk/. This is the program that will organize all of your movies for you. It adds the front and back covers, summary, rating, release year, everything and is very easy to navigate around in. You'll need to download the client and server version and set up an SQL server for it to work. It's very easy to do and the insrtuctions will walk you through it.
Thats basically it pop in a DVD rip it with DVD fab then tag it with My Movies. Thats it a perfect digital copy of the DVD has been created that will last forever.
