How to build a folding canoe:

This is one of the coolest things I have ever built. It is way easier than it might seem and doesn't require much building experience at all. And yes it folds for easy transportation then qucikly unfolds and locks in place to become a perfect two person canoe.

The Free Foldable Canoe Plans

So lets gets started. It's going to take about 2 days to complete and makes for a great weekend project.

First things first here's a list of the materials you will need:

2, 4 foot x 8 foot 1/4 inch thick plywood sheets. any type of exterior wood will work

A couple of gallons of Fiberglass Resin

15-20 square feet of fiberglass cloth

2 hinges

2 locking clasps

Overview:

This canoe is made of plywood panels, cut flat on the floor from dimensions given on the plans. The shape
of the panels is very simple and easy to transfer to the plywood.
The side panels are folded around the bottom panel and held in place with duct tape.
Fiberglass seams are built inside.
The assembly is then flipped over and fiberglass tape is used to cover all the outside edges.
End pieces are attached followed by hinges and finally the locks.
Epoxy coat and paint the complete assembly.

Here are some diagrams for what exactly to do.

With your two pieces of plywood here are the cuts to make.

Side Panels

The side panels can be easily bent around the two bottom panels. These are then temporarily held together with duct tape and stood upright on the left over plywood to make the size of the end panels. All of these are held together by a combination of support panels screwed in at right angles and fiberglass. The two seperate parts of the canoe are attached with hinges and made to lock together when unfolded.
